Costuming is just one part of your act, whether you make everything yourself, hire out the tricky bits, or hire someone to make the entire she-bang, it's your costume and you should feel confident in every part of it.

I love burlesque costuming and encourage everyone to get as involved in their own costuming as they wish!

But if you just want someone to take on the whole thing, that's totally okay, too. You don't have to make your own costume if that's not your thing.

Burlesque costuming is specialized skill. It's not exactly dressmaking, or lingerie design, or theatrical, drag, or dance costuming, although it incorporates elements from all of these.

Costuming for burlesque requires resourcefulness, innovation, and some out-of-the-box thinking; it's fun and rewarding to learn.

No matter if you buy it or make it yourself, you don't want to feel like this at the dress rehearsal:

I've been creating, converting, embellishing, studying, constructing, teaching and removing burlesque costumes on-stage and off for 6 years now, and I am passionate about helping others create successful costumes without breaking the bank. I rarely sew garments from scratch, preferring to focus on adapting existing pieces to fit well, and flatter each performer's unique assets and support any specific body-conscious sensitivities, which nearly every performer has!
